According to signature constructed before 1819.

Given to the Deutsches Museum in 1942. According to the description then given to the Museum by the Observatory of Hamburg it was bought in 1826 for 100 Louis d'Or; the instrument was used in 1874 by Auwers at Luxor (Egypt) and 1882 in Southern Georgia. This is confirmed by an article from Auwers in "Astronomische Nachrichten" (128, 1891), see especially p. 363 and p.371.
