All brass octant. Engraved on crosspiece "B. Martin, London" and on index arm "The Gift of Ezekiel Goldthwait Esq. to the Apparatus of Harvard College in Cambridge N.E. May 1764." Given to replace earlier gift of an octant destroyed in the Harvard Hall fire of 1764.
