Heliometer by G & S Merz, used in the 1874 Dutch expedition on Reunion

The financers of the Dutch expedition for the 1874 transit on Reunion bought this heliometer especially for this occassion. After the expedition the heliometer was donated to the Leiden Observatory who built a tower for it. However, the instrument was never used anymore.
